It's been a while.....Hello Again!

I notice often when I read a blog that the author hasn't written anything in months or often, years.
After having my own blog....now I get it. Before I opened my yoga studio, my daily goal was to write"something", anything. Plans have changed, dreams were pursued, wishes came true.

Welcome to my life and the happenings of my new yoga studio! I hope you find things here that will make you think, make you feel, and make you smile.

My August News from Feel Good Yoga Studio
I hope this newsletter finds you in good health, in your happy place and ready for some summertime heat. As many of you know, my husband Michael and I recently had our home flooded by Tropical Storm Colin. Some folks say, “There was a Tropical Storm?” while the people of Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island felt its fury.

Over the last 5 years or so I have been searching deep inside to create a sense of peace instead of looking for that special place or person to bring me that feeling. Upon opening my studio and halfway through my 500 hour advanced teacher training I thought I had arrived at that peaceful feeling. Tropical Storm Colin was a big wake up call that said, “Keep working girl, you are not there yet!”

If you have known me for very long you know that I am not attached to things. I gave away all my belongings to start a new life after my son Maxx went off to college. I don’t even have a photo album except of my son Maxx’s baby photos. As I sat down day after day looking at the beautiful home we just bought in shambles, drywall cut up from the floor, everything in boxes, leftover salt and sand from flooding in the floors, I was mad and attached to what this house once was. I was holding on so tight to the feeling this space gave me that it was making me sick inside.

So I did what any good yogini would do. I sat down and cried. I admitted I was attached (once I figured it out) and I visualized myself holding a balloon and letting it go... and guess what? It worked. I instantly felt free. I laughed, I had a bounce in my step again and most important, I stopped being mad at my husband (who brought that storm to Florida!). The ones we love get the fury most often! We are all human, we all get mad when places, people, and possessions get taken away from us. But, there is hope of release with meditation, acknowledgement, acceptance, and a willingness to change.

I hope to see you on the mat this month as we all let go of things that don’t enhance our lives.
xoxo,
Debby

MOOD MANAGEMENT

WHO NEEDS MOOD MANAGEMENT?!?!?!

  1. ME
  2. ME
  3. ME

No, really, me!  Yes, I know, I am the YOGA TEACHER.  Not often (thankfully) I get grouchy.  Okay, there I said it. The causes, I tell myself are; food, sleep, hormones. THE LACK OF ALL 3!

Stop laughing. You know you can relate.  An email from some of my fellow doTERRA team members appeared in my inbox a few days ago.  “Key Oils For Mood Management!” Although I feel I know a fair bit about natural cures and essential oils, mood management for myself is something I tend to “put on the back burner” as I am always helping, encouraging, and nourishing others.

So, I read it.

I’ll list 2 and attach the rest.  I hope you will learn something new and if you are a little cranky too (now and then) perhaps this will be a handy guide for you!

Lavender: Eases depression, soothes anxiety, and induces sleep.
Peppermint: Boosts energy, clears mind, invigorating.

Here’s to a little help from our essential oils and Happy New Year!

INTRODUCING, FEEL GOOD ESSENTIAL OILS BLENDS

OH, THEY SMELL SO GOOD!

My table is cluttered with bottles of goodness, fractionated coconut oils, sweet almond oil, stickers, cards, ribbons, and the aromatherapy rocks!  Introducing the first of three blends! “Feel Good Essential Oil Blends”

1891076_10206131411260736_4490476562021093777_n-2.jpg

“Happy Blend”
lavandin, tangerine, lavender, hawaiian sandalwood, melissa, ylang ylang, elemi, osmanthus, lemon myrtle, wild orange, and lemon.
The first 9 oils are from a blend called “Elevation” and the last 2, I added myself.
  • Elevation is the perfect blend for those moments when you need to be revitalized. This exciting blend provides an invigorating combination of essential oils that can elevate your mood and increase your energy. Elevation combines the uplifting and euphoric floral scents of Lavandin, Lavender, Melissa, Ylang Ylang, and Osmanthus with Tangerine, Elemi, and Lemon Myrtle to create a unique blend that promotes a positive mood and energized mind and body.
  • Aromatherapy=The term aromatherapy was derived from the fact that essential oils are a aromatic. The oils can elicit powerful emotional responses.  The process of conveying aromas to the brain is called olfaction, or in more simple terms, smelling!
~The Essential Life, A simple Guide to Living The Wellness Lifestyle

When you smell things you like, something happens.  When you smell something you don’t like, something happens.  Simply stated, that’s aromatherapy on the surface.  There is a deep scientific explanation for the way it works.  That’s for another post!

WHY CHAIR YOGA?

ChairYoga_TT.jpg

A woman asked me why I wanted to teach Chair Yoga here on Longboat Key?  I gathered my thoughts or should I say my emotions and my reply to her was this. “I want everyone to be able to experience the way it feels to move in your body, get to know it again and find a peaceful, quiet place to go (inside yourself) if you need it.”  Not everyone can get up and down off the floor and flow into some of the “traditional” yoga postures. And frankly, I love “introducing folks to yoga!”  So here is a list of 5 ways (in my opinion) you can benefit from Chair Yoga.

5 Benefits
  1. Move your body again in a supported manner. (chair)
  2. Learn to use breathing techniques to support relaxation.
  3. Increase your strength for everyday tasks.
  4. Increased flexibility to continue to do the things you love.

Anyone can enjoy yoga and all it’s special benefits!

I hope to see you on the mat or in the chair.

Chair Class is held on Tuesdays at The Longboat Key Recreation Center/$15 or $10 for members.

I LOVE MY DIFFUSER!

Aromatic Uses:  Our sense of smell influences many physiological pathways including the stimulation of hormones and other metabolic processes. Aromatherapy is founded on the body's predictable response to specific olfactory stimuli. Essential oils are widely used in aromadiffuser.jpg

I LOVE MY DIFFUSER!

I purchased my first diffuser from Whole Foods about a year ago.  Really excited to start diffusing these wonderful smelling oils was something I’d not enjoyed before. I drink them, cook with them, use them instead of over the counter drugs, and use them for perfume.  Never diffused. I was ready to have a clean smelling home, not a home that smelled like the perfume counter at Nordstroms!  I actually get an immediate headache and can “taste” those smells if I have to walk through there. Yuck.  So, I began mixing all kinds of oils. Lime and basil, Lemon and Wild Orange, Lavender and Sandalwood.  Such great combos.  Then one day...only 3 months later, the diffuser died.

Enter a Petal Diffuser from doTERRA. Then a second one. Our home smells wonderful again.  One in the living room /dining room area and one in the bedroom and I use it for my travel diffuser.  Thinking about getting # 3 so I can leave them both in place. Walking into a home that smells “fresh and natural” just makes me say “Ahhhh.!
Email me at ddebile52@gmail.com for wholesale pricing. You can order directly through me until October. I deliver :)

Happy Diffusing!

Here are some of the scientific  reasons to diffuse:

Aromatic uses:  Our sense of smell influences many physiological pathways including the stimulation of hormones and other metabolic processes. Aromatherapy is founded on the body's predictable response to specific olfactory stimuli. Essential oils are widely used in aromatherapy applications. Certain essential oils, when diffused in the air, can be very stimulating while others can be calming and soothing. Beyond emotional benefits, diffusing essential oils can purify air of unwanted odors and some airborne pathogens. Low or no-heat essential oil diffusers are recommended as they do not change the chemical structure of the oil being diffused. Essential oils can also be used as cleansing and purifying additives to laundry and surface cleaners throughout the home.

INSPIRATION COMES WHEN YOU ARE QUIET

They say, love comes knocking when you least expect it.  In my case, kinda.  I was on a trial membership with Match.com. I guess that’s kinda looking. Since I’m writing today using that metaphor, let’s just go with it!  Yes, I am in Italy. Yes, it is beautiful.  And yes, most folks would love to be here for 2 weeks.  Fair enough. (giggle) I have however, like I mentioned, been here for almost 2 weeks and haven’t written one word for this blog.  Don’t most people spend loads of money for scenic “inspiration?”  They leave their jobs and families for weeks, even months to breathe in the cool air of “somewhere” that inspires them?  Not feeling it.

As our trip is coming to an end this week I am ready to come back to the comforts and familiarity of home.  I stopped thinking so hard today and just confusing my mind with so many scattered thoughts (sounds like I need some yoga) and just did nothing. Michael is working all day and night and I haven’t spoken to anyone all day. “Quiet your mind” I preach to my students in class.  I got quiet today. And because of that you are reading my post right now.

I’ve been looking for clarity in 2 places in my life.

  1. How do I stay true to my “yoga brand?” Feel Good Yoga
  2. How do I share my story and results I get on a daily basis from doTERRA essential oils?

It came to me in the silence.

essential oils/aromatherapy.
uses plant materials and aromatic plant oils including essential oils for the purpose of altering one’s mood and physical wellbeing.

yoga.
uses physical postures or asana and breath for the purpose of altering one’s mood and physical wellbeing.

I have been sharing essential oils in my yoga classes for the last 12 years.  I just never thought about it.  The only oil I even knew about was Lavender.  I put it on myself, the room always smelled and the students loved the head massage at the end of each class.  They are a natural fit.  And so the journey begins.  Feel Good Yoga & Essential Oils.  Smells so good. Join me for a class sometime. My schedule is posted on my website.

Until next time..
